Vecchia Milano

Vecchia Milano

Via Castel Morrone 9, Milan

The apartment is located on the second floor of an Art Nouveau building, in Via Castel Morrone, in Milan.

A large courtyard with a colonial feel filters the noise of the city and reinforces the level of privacy of the rooms.

The renovation project aims to increase the permeability of the internal spaces by demolishing the old masonry floors and repositioning all the technical spaces within a single equipped core.

The project was created using a mix of traditional and contemporary materials, contrasting the old parquet with the new resin floor, the old cast iron radiators with the new steel kitchen.

The kitchen is the heart of the living area of which it constitutes the solid curtain at the end of the view that opens from the entrance area. The furniture is covered with a stainless steel skin which highlights the presence of this element in the environment and underlines its mechanical function.
In parallel, a solid oak table warms the environment. The combination of traditional and new elements becomes an opportunity to preserve the historical identity of the place and to express the character of its new inhabitants.

Likewise, new furniture is used to divide the bedrooms, previously part of a single room.
The birch plywood furniture is covered in white laminate and rests on an iron beam designed to suspend the furniture and prevent its load from weighing on the existing attic.
The sliding doors with their opening reveal the woody and material nature of this element.
